There are some problems for a lot of mature learners who wants to access funding. Here is some information about the funds which are available.
Career Development Loans That is a deferred repayable bank loan for vocational (work related) education and training. It is available for those students who are not eligible for funding through their Local Education Authority. There you can borrow approximately from £300 to £8000. And in this case you can pay for up to 80% of the course fees. Also you can pay the full cost of books, materials and other related expenses. There is no upper age limit.
The program for older people "New Deal 50 plus" This program is for older people who are looking for practical help to find work. In case you have taken up work with New Deal, then you can apply for a Training Grant to help gain and update skills relating to work. 
Access Funds Access Funds are administered by UWIC. Their obligations are to help those people who are on low incomes and in most of their needs.
Hardship Funds Hardship Funds are available through UWIC for students experiencing severe financial hardship.
Other sources of support These include childcare grant, lone parents' grant, school meal grant, books and equipment grant and disabled students' allowance. This program is for students up to the age of 55. Students over 54 are eligible for the travel and dependants grant.
Certain students in vulnerable groups are eligible for benefits. That is Housing Benefit. You may connect with your local benefits agency officer to find out how undertaking a course affects benefits.
